Handwashing Tips for Staying Healthy

Handwashing Tips for Staying Healthy

Every year on October 15, we recognize Global Handwashing Day as a reminder that one of the simplest daily habits can have a major impact on our health: washing our hands.

At Expedite Urgent Care, we see firsthand how proper hand hygiene helps prevent the spread of common illnesses like colds, flu, and other infections. Clean hands save lives, especially during cold and flu season when viruses spread quickly in schools, workplaces, and public spaces.

Why Handwashing Matters

Our hands touch countless surfaces throughout the day, picking up germs that can easily transfer when we touch our face, eat, or prepare food. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that proper handwashing can reduce respiratory illnesses by up to 20% and diarrheal diseases by up to 40%.

When and How to Wash Your Hands

Wash your hands regularly, especially before eating, after using the restroom, after coughing or sneezing, and after being in public places.
Follow these five simple steps:

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water.

  2. Lather with soap, covering all surfaces.

  3. Scrub for at least 20 seconds.

  4. Rinse thoroughly.

  5. Dry with a clean towel or air dry.

Let’s Build Healthy Habits Together

This Global Handwashing Day, let’s all commit to better hygiene habits. Encourage your kids, coworkers, and loved ones to wash their hands regularly and lead by example.

At Expedite Urgent Care, we are dedicated to keeping our community healthy and informed. Clean hands are the first step toward a healthier future.
